Lisatud 21.01.2020 | Uuendatud 26.08.2020

The amount of your unemployment insurance benefit for one calendar day shall be calculated on the basis of your average salary for one calendar day.

The average salary for one calendar day shall be calculated on the basis of 9 payments from which unemployment insurance premiums have been withheld before the last 3 months of employment (the last 3 payments and payments for temporary employment during the period of registration as unemployed are not taken into account).

The amount of your unemployment insurance benefit shall be the following percentage of your average salary for one calendar day:

Until 31 July 2020, you will receive 50% of your average pay for one calendar day in benefits for the first 100 days; after that, you will receive 40%.

Starting from 1 August 2020, you will receive 60% of your average pay for one calendar day in benefits for the first 100 days; after that, you will receive 40%.

The benefit payment amount you receive on the first 100 days (50% or 60%) depends on its calculation period. If your benefit payment period starts before 1 August 2020, the benefit payment amount you receive will be automatically recalculated on 1 August 2020 and no separate decision on changing it will be made.

For example, if your unemployment benefit payment period lasts from 1 July 2020 to 27 December 2020 (180 calendar days), you will:

  • receive 50% of your average pay for one calendar day in benefits from 1 July 2020 to 31 July 2020 (31 calendar days)
  • 60% from 1 August 2020 to 8 October 2020 (69 calendar days)
  • 40% from 9 October 2020 to 27 December 2020 (80 calendar days)

If your unemployment benefit payment period lasts from 1 August 2020 to 27 January 2021 (180 calendar days), you will:

  • receive 60% of your average pay for one calendar day in benefits from 1 August 2020 to 8 November 2020 (100 calendar days)
  • 40% from 9 November 2020 to 27 January 2021 (80 calendar days)

Let us say that your average pay for one calendar day was 24 euros.

If the unemployment benefit payment period lasts from 1 July 2020 to 27 December 2020 (180 calendar days), you will receive 12 euros for one calendar day from 1 July 2020 to 31 July 2020, 14.40 euros from 1 August 2020 to 8 October 2020 and 9.60 euros from 9 October 2020 to 27 December 2020.

If the unemployment benefit payment period lasts from 1 August 2020 to 27 January 2021 (180 calendar days), you will receive 14.40 euros for one calendar day from 1 August 2020 to 8 November 2020 and 9.60 euros from 9 November 2020 to 27 January 2021.

Until 31 July 2020, the maximum amount of benefits paid will be 50% or 40% of three times the average pay for one calendar day in Estonia. For the first 100 days, a maximum of 53.43 euros per day can be received from 1 January 2020 to 31 July 2020 and a maximum of 42.74 euros per day (gross amount) can be received starting from day 101.

Starting from 1 August 2020, the maximum amount of benefits paid will be 60% or 40% of three times the average pay for one calendar day in Estonia; a maximum of 64.12 euros per day or 1987.72 euros for 31 days can be received for the first 100 days and a maximum of 42.74 euros per day or 1324.94 euros for 31 days (gross amounts) can be received starting from day 101.
